Georgetown CDL permit and skills-test guide
For a Georgetown driver, two different trips can look like a DMV appointment. The DPS location on Westinghouse Road handles driver licensing and appears on the state’s CDL skills-test list. The Williamson County office on Texas Trail handles vehicle paperwork. If you have a skills appointment, tell us which class you are testing for and what vehicle you need before you reserve a rental.
Choose the permit subjects for your vehicle
If you pull a mini excavator or other equipment for work, the trailer rating matters as well as the power unit. Have both ratings ready when asking about Class A or Class B preparation.
Review Texas commercial vehicle operation and general knowledge. Add air brakes, combination vehicles, or passenger and school bus topics as your vehicle requires. Use the current Texas handbook alongside practice questions.

Prepare for inspection, backing and road
Work through the pre-trip in the order you can repeat aloud. On the backing exercises, account for the truck’s wheelbase and trailer swing. On the road, practice mirror checks and controlled turns in the type of vehicle you intend to test in.
Have your DPS confirmation in hand when you call about your test truck. If you are also renewing your pickup or trailer registration, save a separate stop for the Georgetown Tax Office. The county offers a drive-through for registration renewals, disability placards and property-tax payments when the paperwork is complete.
